Itsekiri group tells Chevron: Relocate to Delta, or face mass action

UGHELLI—THE National  Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, yesterday, threatened to stage a mass protest to the National Assembly and petition the Chevron Home Office in the United States of America if the company fails to relocate its headquarters from Lagos to Delta State, where the company’s operation is located.

The group, in a statement by its president, Collins Edema, also warned the company not to use the current leadership crisis in the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, as an excuse to deny the Itsekiri nation of its 80 percent employment slots.
Accusing Chevron of recruiting personnel to work on the Turn-Around Maintenance, TAM, in the Escravos Gas to Liquid, EGTL, Project in Escravos, the group said that it was not convinced with explanations that the ongoing recruitment in EGTL would be done from the company’s data base on the premise that persons to be engaged were those who worked in EGTL due to the urgency of the job.
The group advised the management of the company to deal directly with the palace of the Olu of Warri on issues that concern employment and contracts pending when the IRDC leadership crisis would be resolved.
